Fuel Tank: Removal

  1. 1.

    Refer to: Gasoline and Gasoline-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions .

  1. 2.

    With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

  1. 3.

    Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .

  1. 4.

    Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

  1. 5.

    Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .

  1. 6.

    Remove the nuts and position fuel tank heat shield aside.

    Torque

    : 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  1. 7.

    Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) tube assembly-to-fuel tank tube quick release coupling and the fuel tank jumper tube-to-Fuel Pump (FP) assembly quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  1. 8.

    Disconnect the fuel vapor tube assembly-to-fuel tank quick release coupling and the vapor tube assembly-to-Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  1. 9.

    Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.

  1. 10.

    Position the Powertrain Jack under the fuel tank.

    Use the General Equipment: Powertrain Jack

  1. 11.

    Remove and discard the fuel tank strap bolts.

    Torque

    : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  1. 12.

    Partially lower the fuel tank for access.

  1. 13.

    Disconnect the Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor electrical connector.

    Disconnect the Fuel Pump (FP) module electrical connector.

  1. 15.

    Lower the fuel tank.
