Pinpoint Test AN: The Headlamps On Warning Chime Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) receives the headlamp switch status from the headlamp switch and the LH front door ajar status from the LH front door ajar switch through hardwired circuitry. The headlamps on warning chime sounds when the LH front door is opened with the ignition off, and the headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEADLAMP ON position. The BCM (Body Control Module) communicates the headlamp on chime request to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) when the headlamps or parking lamps are on with the ignition off and the driver door is opened.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Interior lighting concern

- BCM (Body Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AN : THE HEADLAMPS ON WARNING CHIME IS INOPERATIVE

AN1 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- While monitoring the safety belt warning chime, transition the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.

Does the safety belt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds?

Yes
GO to AN2.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

AN2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION

- Open and close the driver door.

- Observe the interior lamps.

Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door?

Yes
GO to AN3.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

AN3 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder.

- Open the LH front door and observe the key-in-ignition warning chime operation.

Does the key-in-ignition warning chime sound?

Yes
GO to AN4.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test AO. Pinpoint Test AO: The Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime Is Inoperative

AN4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0140:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AY. Pinpoint Test AY: DTC U0140:00

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Chart. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes
No
GO to AN5.

AN5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems for correct navigation of the DTC.
No
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
