Pinpoint Test

WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the RCM while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy® and cause serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test.

NOTE: SRS components should only be disconnected or reconnected when instructed to do so within a pinpoint test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect diagnosis of the SRS.

NOTE: Always make sure the correct SRS component is being installed. Parts released for other vehicles may not be compatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in Ford Catalog Advantage™ or equivalent to make sure the correct component is being installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, DTCs may set.

VERIFY THE SCAN TOOL CAN COMMUNICATE WITH THE PCM
1. Connect the scan tool.
2. Check that a vehicle session can be established using the scan tool.
Can a vehicle session be established?
1. Yes:
  - GO to 2 .
2. No
  - REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE A : The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool to diagnose no communication with the PCM.
CHECK THE OCSM CMDTCs
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform OCSM self-test to retrieve DTCs .
3. Clear the DTCs .
4. Wait 10 seconds.
5. Repeat the OCSM self-test.
Is DTC U0100:00 retrieved again?
1. Yes:
  - GO to 3 .
2. No
  - The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST
1. Check for recorded DTCs from the PCM KOEO self-test.
Is DTC P0562 or P0563 recorded?
1. Yes:
  - REFER to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
2. No
  - GO to 4 .
RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE OCSM SELF-TEST
1. Check for recorded DTCs from the OCSM self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded?
1. Yes:
  - REFER to Diagnostic Routine Y: U3003:16 and U3003:17 .
2. No
  - GO to 5 .
CHECK FOR DTC U0100:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using the scan tool, perform the self-test for all modules.
3. Retrieve the CMDTCs from all modules.
Is DTC U0100:00 set in the ABS module or in the IPC?
1. Yes:
  - CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs . If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI , or POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .
2. No
  - CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs . If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new OCS module. REFER to Occupant Classification System (OCS) Sensor .
