Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE A/C  CLUTCH RELAY
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: A/C  Clutch Relay.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:
      BJB Ground

      A/C  Clutch Relay Socket Ground
      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      2 CBK03 (GY)

      - Ground

      Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

      • Yes:  GO to .
      • No  : VERIFY BJB fuse 70 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. CHECK THE A/C  CLUTCH RELAY
    1. Carry out the Relay - Ultra Micro ISO component test on the A/C  clutch relay.

      Refer to the OEM Wiring Diagrams - COMPONENT TESTING .

      Did the relay pass the component test? 

      • Yes:  GO to .
      • No  : INSTALL a new A/C  clutch relay.
  3. CHECK THE A/C  CLUTCH RELAY COIL SWITCHED GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: PCM C175B (3.5L) or C1381B (2.0L).
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. 3.5L engine, measure:
      PCM Ground

      C175B Ground
      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      12 CH302 (WH/BN)
      G08033411
      - Ground
    5. 2.0L engine, measure:
      PCM Ground
      G08033419
      G08031601
      C1381B Ground
      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      10 CH302 (WH/BN)
      G08033411
      - Ground

      Is any voltage present? 

      • Yes:  REPAIR the circuit.
      • No  : GO to .
  4. CHECK THE A/C  CLUTCH RELAY COIL SWITCHED GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. 3.5L engine, measure:
      PCM Ground

      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      12 CH302 (WH/BN)
      G08031553
      - Ground
    3. 2.0L engine, measure:
      PCM Ground
      G08033419
      G08031601
      C1381B Ground
      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      10 CH302 (WH/BN)

      - Ground

      Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

      • Yes:  GO to .
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  5. CHECK THE A/C  CLUTCH RELAY COIL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. 3.5L engine, measure:
      BJB PCM

      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      1 CH302 (WH/BN)

      12 CH302 (WH/BN)
    2. 2.0L engine, measure:
      BJB PCM

      A/C  Clutch Relay Socket C1381B
      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      1 CH302 (WH/BN)
      G08031553
      10 CH302 (WH/BN)

      Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

      • Yes:  GO to .
      • No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  6. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

      Is the concern still present? 

      • Yes:  CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM:

        REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI , or

        REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .

      • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
