Fuel Injection Pump Supply Tube: Removal

NOTE: During the repair or installation of fuel-related components, cap, tape or otherwise appropriately protect all fuel openings to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. Remove caps, tape and other protective materials prior to installation.
  1. WARNING: Do not work on the fuel system until the pressure has been released and the engine has cooled. Fuel in the high-pressure fuel system is hot and under very high pressure. High-pressure fuel may cause cuts and contact with hot fuel may cause burns. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

    Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .

  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to ENGINE - 6.7L DIESEL .
  3. NOTE: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. To prevent fuel system damage, it is essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components.

    Disconnect the fuel return tube quick connect coupling from the fuel injection pump return tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .

  4. NOTE: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. To prevent fuel system damage, it is essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components.

    Disconnect the fuel filter-to-fuel injection pump supply tube quick connect coupling from the secondary fuel filter. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .

  5. NOTE: It may be necessary to unthread the engine sound shield retainers from the engine.

    Remove the 4 LH engine sound shield retainers and the LH engine sound shield.

  6. NOTE: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. To prevent fuel system damage, it is essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components.

    Disconnect the fuel rail-to-fuel injection pump return tube quick connect coupling from the rear of the LH fuel rail. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .

  7. Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate vacuum tube retainer and remove the fuel injection pump supply tube bracket stud bolt from the fuel filter bracket.
  8. Disconnect the fuel temperature sensor and the fuel pressure switch electrical connectors.
    • Disconnect the wiring harness retainer.
  9. Remove the 2 fuel injection pump supply tube bracket bolts from the LH valve cover.
  10. Remove the fuel injection pump supply tube manifold bolt and the fuel injection pump supply tube.
    • Remove and discard the 4 O-rings from the fuel injection pump supply tube.
