Powertrain Control Software: Multiplexing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Multiplexing is the process of communicating several messages over the same signal path. This process allows multiple modules to communicate with each other through the signal path controller area network (CAN). Modules communicate with the PCM using CAN communications, to determine the priority in which the signals are sent. For additional information, refer to CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)  in this article.
