Removal and Installation

Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING WHEEL .
Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.
- To install, tighten the new bolt to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
NOTE: Vehicles with manual transmissions are not equipped with a brake shift interlock solenoid and have a plastic housing retaining the electrical connector.

Disconnect the following electrical connectors.
- Steering column control module
- Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) transceiver
- Adjustable pedal switch
- Multifunction switch
Detach the transmission selector lever cable from the steering column and the bracket.
- Detach the transmission selector lever cable pin-type retainer.
Detach the wiring harness retainers from the steering column and position the wiring harness aside.
Detach the upper steering column shaft from the steering column.
NOTE: Make sure the steering column support is flush with the instrument panel before tightening the 2 nuts and 2 bolts or damage to the steering column may occur.

Remove and discard the 2 steering column-to-instrument panel nuts.
- To install, tighten the new nuts to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
Remove and discard the 2 steering column-to-instrument panel bolts and remove the steering column.
- To install, tighten the new bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
NOTE: Make sure the electrical wiring harness is routed correctly and secured to the steering column or damage to the wires and/or connectors may occur.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
