Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

All vehicles 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  3. Detach the radiator-to-degas bottle hose retainer from the cooling fan shroud.
  4. Disconnect the cooling fan clutch electrical connector.
  5. Remove the bolt and detach the cooling fan clutch wiring harness bracket from the cooling fan shroud.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).

    Vehicles without Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly (ESOF) 

  6. Disconnect the ESOF solenoid electrical connector from the blank.
  7. Detach the 6 wiring harness retainers from the RH side of the cooling fan shroud.

    Vehicles with ESOF 

  8. Disconnect the vacuum reservoir-to-hubs vacuum connector from the vacuum reservoir.
  9. Disconnect the vacuum solenoid electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the intake manifold-to-vacuum reservoir vacuum hose connector from the vacuum reservoir.
  11. Detach the 2 wiring harness retainers from the vacuum reservoir and the 4 wiring harness retainers from the RH side of the cooling fan shroud.

    All vehicles 

  12. Remove the bolt and position the power steering fluid reservoir aside.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  13. Detach the degas bottle-to-engine hose retainer from the cooling fan shroud.
  14. Detach the 5 wiring harness retainers from the cooling fan shroud.
  15. Detach the front impact severity sensor wiring harness retainer from the cooling fan shroud.
  16. Press the 5 position retaining tabs and rotate the lower cooling fan shroud upward.

  17. Remove the 2 lower cooling fan shroud bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  18. Using the Fan Pulley Holding Wrench and the Fan Clutch Nut Wrench, remove the cooling fan and cooling fan clutch from the coolant pump pulley and position the cooling fan and cooling fan clutch in the cooling fan shroud.
    • To install, tighten to 133 Nm (98 lb-ft).

  19. Remove the 2 upper cooling fan shroud bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  20. Remove the cooling fan, the cooling fan clutch and the cooling fan shroud.
  21. If servicing the cooling fan or the cooling fan clutch, remove the 4 bolts and separate the cooling fan from the cooling fan clutch.
    • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  22. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
