PINPOINT TEST F: The Power Liftgate Does Not Power Close (Power Open Ok)
- F1 CHECK THE MANUAL OPERATION OF THE LIFTGATE
- While manually opening and closing the liftgate, check the liftgate for:
- liftgate/wedge alignment
- strut operation (struts should push liftgate open when beyond half open)
- hinges (should move freely)
Does the liftgate open and close correctly?
Yes : GO to F2.
No : REPAIR and ALIGN as necessary. Refer to LIFTGATE ALIGNMENT .
- While manually opening and closing the liftgate, check the liftgate for:
- F2 CHECK THE LIFTGATE LEFT/RIGHT PINCH STRIP STATUS (LFT_PINCH/RT_PINCH) OPERATION
- F3 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT
- Disconnect: Inoperative Pinch Strip.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-1 Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-1 Ground Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
Yes : GO to F7.
No : If the voltage measured was greater than 5 volts, GO to F4.
If the voltage measured was less than 5 volts, GO to F5.
- F4 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174B.
- Ignition ON.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-1 Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-1 Ground Is any voltage present?
Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question.
No : GO to F5.
- F5 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174B.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-1 Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-1 Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes : GO to F6.
No : REPAIR the circuit in question.
- F6 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-1 C4174B-12 - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-1 C4174B-14 Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes : GO to F11.
No : REPAIR the circuit in question.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
- F7 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP RETURN CIRCUIT
- Ignition ON.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-1 C4172-2 - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-1 C4173-2 Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
Yes : INSTALL a new pinch strip for the pinch strip in question. Refer to Pinch Strip Switch .
No : GO to F8.
- F8 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP RETURN CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174B.
- Ignition ON.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-2 Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-2 Ground Is any voltage present?
Yes : REPAIR the circuit.
No : GO to F9.
- F9 CHECK THE PINCH STRIP RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4172-2 C4174B-21 - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead C4173-2 C4174B-21 Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes : GO to F11.
No : REPAIR the circuit.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
- F10 CHECK THE DETENT AND FORKBOLT SWITCH PIDs
- Using the the scan tool, view LTM PIDs .
- Operate the liftgate manually while monitoring the LTM PIDs
:
- Detent Switch Status (DETENTSW)
- Forkbolt Switch Status (FORKBLT_S)
- Forkbolt Secondary Switch (FKSWSEC)
- Begin with the liftgate in the open position, then slowly close the liftgate into each of the latch positions specified.
Liftgate Latch Position DETENTSW FORKBLT_S FKSWSEC Fully unlatched Inactive Active Active Primary Active Inactive Inactive Do the switch states agree with the table?
Yes : GO to F11.
No : GO to PINPOINT TEST L .
- F11 CHECK FOR CORRECT LTM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all LTM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect all the LTM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes : CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new LTM . Refer to LIFTGATE/TRUNK MODULE (LTM) .
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
