Fuel Rail: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use O-ring seals that are made of special fuel-resistant material. The use of ordinary O-rings seals can cause the fuel system to leak. Do not reuse the O-ring seals.
NOTE: The upper and lower fuel injector O-ring seals are similar in appearance but are not interchangeable.
NOTE: Install the new fuel injector O-ring seals and lubricate them with clean engine oil.
  1. Replace the 12 fuel injector O-ring seals and lubricate them with clean engine oil.
  2. Install the 6 fuel injectors and the 6 fuel injector clips into the fuel rail.
  3. Install the fuel rail and fuel injectors as an assembly.
  4. Install the 4 fuel rail bolts.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  5. Connect the 6 fuel injector electrical connectors.
  6. Position the tube assembly and connect the fuel rail jumper tube to fuel rail spring lock coupling. For additional information, REFER to SPRING LOCK COUPLINGS .
  7. Install fuel rail jumper tube bracket bolt.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  8. Install the upper intake manifold. For additional information, REFER to UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
  9. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, REFER to BATTERY DISCONNECT .
  10. Pressurize the fuel system. For additional information, REFER to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
