General Procedure

NOTE: The object used in this system check can be fabricated from 76.2 mm (3 in) OD 1, 219.2 mm (48 in) in length pipe (from a hardware or plumbing supply).NOTE: The following system check should be carried out with the vehicle on a level surface. The specified object locations are approximate, not absolute.NOTE: The parking aid system defaults to on when the ignition key is cycled from OFF to ON.NOTE: The scan tool may be used to monitor distance PIDs. The distance PIDs read between 0 and 255 cm (0 and 8 ft) on a correctly functioning system.
Turn the ignition to the ON position, engine off.
- Set the parking brake on.
- Place the gear shift in DRIVE (D).
- Verify that the parking aid system detects the specified object when placed within the 3 specified locations (P1, P2, P3) and record the distances.
- Confirm that the recorded distances are within the specification ranges.
