Pinpoint Test An: U0140

  1. AN1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

    Is an observable symptom present? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AN2  .
    2. No  : The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC  may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. CLEAR all CMDTCs  .
  2. AN2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK 
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

    Does the BCM pass the network test? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AN3  .
    2. No  : REFER to GO TO PINPOINT TEST I .
  3. AN3 CHECK FOR DTCs U3003:16 AND U3003:17 FROM THE BCM SELF-TEST 
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the continuous memory DTCs  from the BCM  .

    Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded? 

    1. Yes  : For DTC  U3003:16, REFER to GO TO PINPOINT TEST H .

      For DTC  U3003:17, REFER to GO TO PINPOINT TEST I .

    2. No  : GO to AN4  .
  4. AN4 RECHECK THE DSM DTCs 
    • NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC  being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI  or the PMI  may not have been carried out.

      Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTCs  . Repeat the DSM  self-test.

    Is DTC U0140 still present? 

    1. Yes  : GO to AN5  .
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC  may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  5. AN5 CHECK FOR DTC U0140:87 OR DTC U0140 IN OTHER MODULES 
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all DTCs  .
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Wait 10 seconds.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the continuous memory DTCs  from all modules.

    Is DTC U0140:87 or DTC U0140 set in any other modules? 

    1. Yes  : CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB  instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM  . REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS
    2. No  : CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB  instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new DSM  . Refer to DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM) .
