Main Control - Overhaul: Assembly

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. NOTE: Many components and surfaces in the main control valve body are precision machined. Use care when cleaning and assembling the upper and lower valve body or damage can occur to the machined surfaces.

Clean and inspect the upper and lower valve body for damage. Inspect the passages and valves for damage and clean any excessive debris. Install new components as necessary.

  2. Clean and inspect the separator plate for damage. Install a new separator plate if necessary.

  3. NOTE: Make sure to install the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs in the correct locations in the upper and lower valve body or harsh/soft or no shifts or damage to the transmission can occur.

Clean and install the retaining clips, caps, valves and valve springs into the bores of the upper and lower valve body.

  4. Clean and install the 3 check balls, the 2 relief valves and the control valve inlet nozzle in the locations they were removed from.

  5. NOTE: Make sure to align the relief valves to the holes they rest in.

Position the separator plate on the upper valve body and install the 2 bolts.

    • Tighten the bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).

  6. Install the 2 solenoid dampers in the lower valve body.

  7. Position the upper valve body on the lower valve body.

    2. Lower valve body
      G07972627
  8. NOTE: Make sure the 4 longer main control bolts are installed in the locations they were removed.

Install the 26 main control bolts. Tighten the main control bolts from the inside out.

    • Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
      G07972626
  9. NOTE: Solenoids are calibrated from the factory and are not all the same. To replace a solenoid, match the replacement solenoid type (normally high/normally low) and the band number with the original solenoid or harsh shifts or damage to the transmission can occur.

Inspect the solenoid O-rings for damage and install new O-rings if needed. Inspect the solenoid screens for contamination and install new solenoids if needed. If new solenoids are needed, use the solenoid exploded view at the beginning of this procedure to identify which type (normally high/normally low) of solenoid it is and use the charts below to get the correct part number for the solenoid band number.

Solenoid Band Number Normally High Solenoid Part Number
    1 BC3Z-7G383-J
    2 BC3Z-7G383-K
    3 BC3Z-7G383-L
    4 BC3Z-7G383-M
    5 BC3Z-7G383-N
Solenoid Band Number Normally Low Solenoid Part Number
    1 BC3Z-7G383-R
    2 BC3Z-7G383-S
    3 BC3Z-7G383-T

  11. NOTE: Make sure the solenoid retainer is installed so the bolt hole surface rests flush against the main control valve body assembly or damage to the solenoids or retainer can occur.

Install the solenoid retainer and the 7 bolts.

    • Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
