Pinpoint Test A: Transmission Control Solenoids

INTRODUCTION - DIESEL MODELS
or ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) (SECTION 0)

NOTE:
Read and record all DTCs.
- A1 CHECK THE SOLENOID POWER CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Transmission C1623.
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage from the transmission vehicle harness C1623-1 circuit CET25 (BU/GN) and C1623-2 circuit CET25 (BU/GN) harness side to ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to A4.
- No : GO to A2.
- A2 CHECK THE SOLENOID POWER CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175T.
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Measure the resistance from the PCM C175T-50 to transmission vehicle harness C1623-1 and C1623-2 circuit CET25 (BU/GN).
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to A3.
- No : REPAIR transmission vehicle harness circuit which measured greater than 5 ohms. CLEAR the DTC's. TEST the system for normal operation. If DTC P0657 or DTC P2669 returns, REPLACE the PCM.
- A3 CHECK THE SOLENOID POWER CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance from the PCM C175T-50, circuit CET25 (BU/GN) of the transmission vehicle harness to ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to A4.
- No : REPAIR transmission vehicle harness circuit CET25 (BU/GN) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTC's. TEST the system for normal operation. If DTC P0657 or DTC P2669 returns, REPLACE the PCM.
- A4 CHECK THE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175T.
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Measure the resistance of the solenoid circuit between the PCM C175T and transmission vehicle harness C1623 using the following chart.
Transmission Control Circuit PCM C1623-3 Shift Solenoid A (SSA) CET05 (BU/GN) C175T-43 C1623-4 Shift Solenoid B (SSB) CET06 (GN/BN) C175T-44 C1623-5 Shift Solenoid C (SSC) CET07 (GY/OG) C175T-45 C1623-6 Shift Solenoid D (SSD) CET08 (BN/WH) C175T-10 C1623-7 Shift Solenoid E (SSE) CET09 (YE/VT) C175T-34 C1623-8 Pressure Control Solenoid A (PCA) CET49 (BN) C175T-46 C1623-9 Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) CET50 (WH/OG) C175T-42 - Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to A5.
- No : REPAIR the transmission vehicle harness circuit which measured greater than 5 ohms. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A5 CHECK THE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C175T, harness side and ground using the following chart.
PCM Control Circuit Ground C175T-43 SSA CET05 (BU/GN) Ground C175T-44 SSB CET06 (GN/BN) Ground C175T-45 SSC CET07 (GY/OG) Ground C175T-10 SSD CET08 (BN/WH) Ground C175T-34 SSE CET09 (YE/VT) Ground C175T-46 PCA CET49 (BN) Ground C175T-42 TCC CET50 (WH/OG) Ground - Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to A6.
- No : REPAIR the transmission vehicle harness circuit shorted to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C175T, harness side and ground using the following chart.
- A6 CHECK THE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Connect: PCM C175T.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure for voltage between the transmission vehicle harness C1623, harness side and ground using the following chart.
Transmission Control Circuit Ground C1623-3 SSA CET05 (BU/GN) Ground C1623-4 SSB CET06 (GN/BN) Ground C1623-5 SSC CET07 (GY/OG) Ground C1623-6 SSD CET08 (BN/WH) Ground C1623-7 SSE CET09 (YE/VT) Ground C1623-8 PCA CET49 (BN) Ground C1623-9 TCC CET50 (WH/OG) Ground - Is the voltage greater than 3 volts?
- Yes : REPAIR the transmission vehicle harness circuit shorted to power. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to A7.
- A7 CHECK TRANSMISSION INTERNAL HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the transmission vehicle harness C1623, component side and ground using the following chart.
Transmission Solenoid Ground C1623-1 Solenoid power 2 Ground C1623-2 Solenoid power 1 Ground C1623-3 SSA Ground C1623-4 SSB Ground C1623-5 SSC Ground C1623-6 SSD Ground C1623-7 SSE Ground C1623-8 PCA Ground C1623-9 TCC Ground - Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to A8.
- No : REPLACE the transmission internal harness. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Measure the resistance between the transmission vehicle harness C1623, component side and ground using the following chart.
- A8 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION INTERNAL HARNESS/COMPONENT RESISTANCE FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the transmission vehicle harness C1623, component side power circuit terminal and control circuit terminal using the following chart.
Transmission Solenoid Transmission C1623-2 SSA C1623-3 C1623-2 SSC C1623-5 C1623-2 SSE C1623-7 C1623-1 PCA C1623-8 C1623-1 TCC C1623-9 C1623-1 SSB C1623-4 C1623-1 SSD C1623-6 - Is the resistance measurement between 4.8 and 5.4 ohms?
- Yes
: Refer to MAIN CONTROL - OVERHAUL to INSPECT for stuck valves or debris.
If no problems are found, REPLACE suspected solenoid.
CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSPECT the transmission internal harness for an open. If an open circuit is not found, REPLACE the faulty component. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Measure the resistance between the transmission vehicle harness C1623, component side power circuit terminal and control circuit terminal using the following chart.
