Engine Rear Cover: Removal

  1. Remove the upper oil level indicator and tube. For additional information, refer to OIL LEVEL INDICATOR AND TUBE .
  2. NOTE: The upper oil pan must be removed prior to removing the engine rear cover or engine damage may occur.

    Remove the upper oil pan. For additional information, refer to OIL PAN - UPPER .

  3. Remove the crankshaft rear seal. For additional information, refer to CRANKSHAFT REAR SEAL .
  4. Remove the turbocharger downpipe bracket bolt.

  5. NOTE: Do not use magnetic screwdrivers or other magnetic tools around the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and the crankshaft sensor pulse ring or damage to the components may occur.

    Disconnect the CKP electrical connector.

  6. NOTE: To prevent engine damage, replace damaged or missing dowel pins before installing the engine rear cover.

    Remove the 10 bolts and the engine rear cover.

    • Remove and discard the engine rear cover gasket.
