Inspection and Verification

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Inspect the engine for installation of an aftermarket oil filter. Review oil and filter maintenance history to make sure that the vehicle has not gone beyond the standard Ford recommended oil change intervals. Check the engine oil level and check the oil for contamination. If the oil is contaminated, engine damage can occur, the source of the contamination must be identified and repaired as necessary.
NOTE: The following information is intended to diagnose engine oil pressure issues only. For diagnosis and testing of the electronic engine control system, refer to the INTRODUCTION - DIESEL MODELS .
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of damage.
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern is not visually evident, check the base oil pressure.
  5. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  6. Disconnect the Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) sensor electrical connector and remove the sensor.

  7. NOTE: Engine shown removed for clarity.

Install a commercially available oil pressure gauge and check the base oil pressure. The minimum engine oil pressure specifications are 68.9 kPa (10 psi) at 700 RPM, 137.8 kPa (20 psi) at 1, 200 RPM and 241.3 kPa (35 psi) at 1, 800 RPM with the engine at operating temperature.

  8. Install the EOT sensor and connect the electrical connector.
    • Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).

  9. NOTE: The oil pump and the oil pressure regulator are mounted internally to the engine front cover and are serviced only with the engine front cover. There are no parts available for service.

If the concern is not evident, verify the symptom. GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
