Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Removal

  1. Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to OIL PAN .
  2. NOTE: The powertrain was lifted using a Transmission jack, Engine Support Bar, Support Hook and Engine Support Bracket during the oil pan removal.

    Lower the power train into the installed position as follows:

    1. Align the transmission rear insulator studs with the crossmember holes and lower the transmission. Remove the Transmission Jack.
    2. Align the engine support insulator studs with the frame holes and lower the engine.
  3. Remove the flexplate. For additional information, refer to FLEXPLATE .
  4. Remove the rear engine cover plate.
  5. Using the Slide Hammer and the Crankshaft Rear Oil Slinger Remover, remove and discard the crankshaft oil slinger.

  6. Using the Slide Hammer and the Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Remover, remove and discard the crankshaft rear seal.

  7. Remove the 6 bolts and the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate.
