Oil Pan: Removal

All vehicles 

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
2. Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD .
3. Remove the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING - GASOLINE ENGINES .
4. Install the Engine Support Bar and Engine Support Bracket.

5. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the engine oil. Install the drain plug when finished.
   • Tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

6. Remove and discard the oil filter.

7. If equipped, remove the threaded insert and position the engine oil cooler aside.

8. Remove the nut, the transmission auxiliary fluid cooler tube support bracket and the starter wiring harness support bracket from the engine front cover stud bolt.

   Automatic transmission equipped vehicles 

9. NOTE: Failure to replace the transmission support insulator nuts may result in transmission support insulator damage.
   NOTE: If the transmission support insulator stud loosens when the transmission support insulator nut is removed, the stud must be discarded and a new stud installed.

   Remove and discard the 2 transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts.

10. If equipped, remove the bolts and the skidplate.

    Remove the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts.

    All vehicles 

12. NOTE: Failure to replace the engine support insulator nuts may result in engine support insulator damage.
    NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine support insulator nuts or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.
    NOTE: The engine support insulator studs may come out of the insulator while removing the nuts. Install new engine support insulator studs if the studs come out of the insulator.

    Remove and discard the 4 RH engine support insulator nuts.

13. NOTE: Failure to replace the engine support insulator nuts may result in engine support insulator damage.
    NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine support insulator nuts or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.

    Remove and discard the 3 LH engine support insulator nuts.

14. Using the Engine Support Bar and Engine Support Bracket, raise the engine assembly.

    Automatic transmission equipped vehicles 

15. Remove the flexplate inspection cover.
    1. Remove the 2 bolts.
    2. Remove the inspection cover.

16. NOTE: Support the transmission on the pan rails only or internal transmission damage can occur.

    Install a Transmission Jack and raise the transmission.

17. Remove the 20 bolts and the oil pan.
    • Discard the oil pan gasket.

    Manual transmission equipped vehicles 

18. Remove 20 oil pan bolts and position the oil pan onto the crossmember.
19. Remove the nut, the 2 bolts and position the oil pump screen and pickup tube into the oil pan.
20. Position the oil pan onto the engine and install 1 bolt at the front and 1 bolt at the rear of the oil pan to hold it in position.
21. Using the Engine Support Bar and Engine Support Bracket, align the engine support insulator studs and lower the engine.

22. Remove the flywheel. For additional information, refer to FLYWHEEL .
23. Remove the rear engine cover.
24. Remove the 2 oil pan bolts, the oil pan and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
    • Discard the oil pan gasket.
    • Discard the oil pump screen and pickup tube O-ring seal.
