Removal and Installation

WARNING: All safety belt components must be inspected and corrected as part of any collision repair. Inspect all safety belt components as prescribed by Safety Belt Inspection and Repair After a Collision . Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect operation of the safety belt system and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

All safety belt buckles 

  1. Using an appropriate tool, push in the pin hole while pulling the safety belt tongue out of the safety belt mini-buckle.
    • After installation, when inserting the safety belt tongue into the safety belt mini-buckle, make sure the safety belt mini-buckle and safety belt retractor webbing are not twisted.

  2. Remove the rear seat backrest. For additional information, refer to SEATING .

    LH outboard/LH center safety belt buckle assembly 

  3. Remove the LH outboard/LH center safety belt buckles from the elastic strap.

  4. Remove the bolt and LH outboard/LH center safety belt buckle assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).

  5. Remove the RH outboard/RH center safety belt buckles from the elastic strap.

  6. Remove the bolt and RH outboard/RH center safety belt buckle assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).

  7. NOTE: When installing a new safety belt buckle assembly, make sure it is installed on the correct side. This is due to the safety belt buckles and tongues being different sizes from the LH to the RH side.
    NOTE: Before installation, make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted and the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants.

    To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  8. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to the appropriate FUNCTIONAL TEST procedure in Safety Belt System .
