Exhaust System

NOTE:
When repairing exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect all Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) at the wiring connectors to prevent damage to the HO2S and wiring harness. Refer to
ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS
for location of the HO2S.
NOTE:
Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. They may cause deterioration of the rubber.
NOTE:
Oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators may cause the exhaust hanger isolator to separate from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.
NOTE:
Exhaust fasteners are of a torque-prevailing design. Use only new fasteners with the same part number as the original. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of exhaust components.
The exhaust system:
- has LH and RH catalytic converters in a one-piece assembly (3.7L and 5.8L).
- has separate LH and RH catalytic converters (5.0L and Boss® 302).
- has 2 upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) mounted before the catalytic converters (3.7L).
- has an upstream HO2S mounted to the LH exhaust manifold and one mounted to the RH exhaust manifold (5.0L and Boss® 302).
- has one upstream HO2S mounted to the LH exhaust manifold and one mounted before the RH catalytic converter (5.8L).
- has 2 Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) mounted to catalytic converters (3.7L).
- has 2 CMS mounted after the catalytic converters (5.0L, Boss® 302 and 5.8L).
- has a quad dual exhaust system with a unique exhaust H-pipe. The quad dual exhaust H-pipe has LH and RH tunable exhaust side pipes that exit the vehicle in front of each rear wheel (Boss® 302 only).
- has LH and RH intermediate pipes.
- has LH and RH muffler assemblies.
- has muffler brackets with isolators at the front and rear of the muffler, bolted to the body.
- production muffler and tail pipe assembly is a one-piece design.
