DTC P1140: Water In Fuel Condition

DTC P1140: WATER IN FUEL CONDITION

Description:  The water in fuel (WIF) sensor is monitored by the PCM. This DTC sets when the PCM detects water in the fuel, and the WIF indicator lamp is illuminated.
Possible Causes: 
  • Water in fuel condition
  • WIF circuit short to ground
  • Damaged WIF sensor
Diagnostic Aids:  Drain a fuel sample from the fuel conditioning module and inspect for water or contaminants. If no water or contaminants are in the container, check for a circuit concern.
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
