Pinpoint Test

NOTE: Make sure the second row power release seats will manually release and latch before troubleshooting the electrical system.
  1. CHECK MANUAL RELEASE OPERATION OF THE SEAT
    1. Pull the release strap of the affected seat and check the manual release operation.

    Does the seat release manually? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: DISASSEMBLE the seat as necessary to CHECK the cables and cable mounting for disconnection. CHECK latch release mechanism and latch feet for binding or damage. REPAIR as needed. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. CHECK THE INTERIOR DEMAND LIGHTING/BATTERY SAVER OPERATION
    1. Open any of the vehicle doors and check the interior courtesy lamp operation.

    Do the interior lamps illuminate when a door is opened? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: INTERIOR LIGHTING to diagnose the inoperative demand lighting/battery saver concern.
  3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE POWER-RELEASE SEAT MOTOR
    1. Disconnect: Suspect LH or RH Power Release Seat Motor.
    2. Measure:
      Suspect Power Release Seat Motor Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: VERIFY BJB fuse 61 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. CHECK THE SUSPECT POWER RELEASE SEAT MOTOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:
      Suspect Power Release Seat Motor Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit.
  5. CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH OUTPUT
    NOTE: If the demand lighting/battery saver system has timed out, close and re-open any of the vehicle doors to activate the system before measuring the voltage.
    1. Press and release the suspect LH or RH seat control switch while measuring:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the switch is pressed; and 0 volt when released? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new LH or RH power release seat motor. REFER to Power Release Seat Motor .
    2. No: If voltage was less than 11 volts when the switch was pressed, GO to .

      If voltage was greater than 0 volt when the switch was released, GO to  8.

  6. CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
    NOTE: If the demand lighting/battery saver system has timed out, close and re-open any of the vehicle doors to activate the system before measuring the voltage.
    1. Disconnect: Suspect LH Seat Control Switch C3343 or RH Seat Control Switch C3344.
    2. Measure:
      Seat Control Switch Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: VERIFY BCM fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, shown in illustration the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. shown in illustration OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. For LH seat, measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new LH or RH seat control switch. shown in illustration Seat Control Switch .
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
  8. CHECK THE SUSPECT SEAT CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Disconnect: Suspect LH Seat Control Switch C3343 or RH Seat Control Switch C3344.
    2. Measure:
      Power Release Seat Motor Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    1. Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit.
    2. No: INSTALL a new LH or RH seat control switch. shown in illustration Seat Control Switch .
