Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE PCM TR PID STATES
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view PCM PID TR.
    3. Operate the transmission gear selector in all positions while monitoring the PCM PID TR states.

    Do the PID states agree with the selected positions? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: To diagnose a transmission gear selector (PRNDL) status concern, REFER to DTC AND SYMPTOM CHART(S)DTC CHART and SYMPTOM CHART - Automatic Transmission - 6F50 and 6F55.
  2. CHECK THE DSM IGNITION SWITCH STATUS (IGN_SW) PID STATES
    1. Using a scan tool, view DSM PIDs  .
    2. Cycle the ignition switch in all positions while monitoring the DSM PID IGN_SW states.

    Do the PID states agree with the selected positions? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: For vehicles equipped with an ignition lock cylinder and key, REFER to INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES . For vehicles equipped with passive entry/passive start, REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
  3. RETRIEVE DSM DTCs 
    1. Operate the memory seat and memory mirrors in all directions through the full range of travel.
    2. Place the memory seat and memory mirrors in central travel positions.
    3. Using a scan tool, perform DSM self-test.

    Are any DSM DTCs retrieved? 

    1. Yes: If DTCs  B1952, B1956, B1960 and B1964 are all retrieved, GO to  4  .

      If DTCs  B1953, B1957, B1961 and B1965 are all retrieved, GO to  4  .

      If only DTC B1534, B1538 or B153A are retrieved, GO to  5  .

      If only DTC B1663, B1956 or B1957 are retrieved, GO to  11  .

      If only DTC B1664, B1952 or B1953 are retrieved, GO to  14  .

      If only DTC B1665, B1964 or B1965 are retrieved, GO to  17  .

      If only DTC B1666, B1960 or B1961 are retrieved, GO to  20  .

      For any other DSM DTCs  , REFER to DTC Chart: Driver Seat Module (DSM) .

    2. No: GO to .
  4. MONITOR THE DSM PIDs  AND CHECK THE DSM FOR CORRECT MEMORY SET SWITCH INPUTS
    1. Using a scan tool, view DSM PIDs  .
      • Memory 1 recall switch status (MEM_1)
      • Memory 2 recall switch status (MEM_2)
      • Memory 2 recall switch status (MEM_3)
    2. Monitor the DSM PIDs  while activating the memory set switch, recall 1, recall 2 and recall 3 buttons.

    Do the PID states agree with the switch button positions? 

    1. Yes: GO to  4  .
    2. No: GO to .
  5. CHECK THE MEMORY SET SWITCH
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Door Lock Control Switch C541.
    3. While pressing and releasing the indicated switch buttons, measure:

    Are the resistances less than 20 ohms when the memory recall switch is pressed; and greater than 10, 000 ohms when released? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: INSTALL a new memory set switch. REFER to Memory Set Switch . CLEAR the DTCs  .
  6. CHECK THE MEMORY SET SWITCH GROUND FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:
      Door Lock Control Switch Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  .
  7. CHECK THE MEMORY SET SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: DSM C341C.
    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Measure:
      Door Lock Control Switch Ground

    1. Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24  .

  8. CHECK THE MEMORY SET SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to  23  .
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24  .
  10. MONITOR THE DSM PIDs 
    1. Using a scan tool, view DSM PIDs  .
      • Driver Power Seat Front Up/Down Sense (SFNT_MT)
      • Driver Power Seat Forward/Backward Sense (SFWD_MT)
      • Driver Power Seat Recline Sense (SRCL_MT)
      • Driver Power Seat Rear Up/Down Sense (SREARMT)
    2. Operate the memory seat in all directions through the full range of travel while monitoring the PIDs  .

    Does each PID indicate the sensor is operational throughout each associated motor's full range of travel? 

    1. Yes: GO to  23  .
    2. No: If front up/down position sensor PID value indicates not present, GO to 11  .

      If rear up/down position sensor PID value indicates not present, GO to  14  .

      If forward/rearward position sensor PID value indicates not present, GO to  17  .

      If recline position sensor PID value indicates not present, GO to  20  .

  11. CHECK THE FRONT HEIGHT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: DSM C341B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Front Height Motor C382.
    5. Ignition ON.
    6. Measure:
      Driver Seat Front Height Motor Ground

    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
  14. CHECK THE REAR HEIGHT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: DSM C341B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Rear Height Motor C363.
    5. Ignition ON.
    6. Measure:
      Driver Seat Rear Height Motor Ground

    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
  17. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: DSM C341B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Horizontal Motor C362.
    5. Ignition ON.
    6. Measure:
      Driver Seat Horizontal Motor Ground

    1. Yes: GO to 19  .

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
  20. CHECK THE RECLINER POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: DSM C341B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Recliner Motor C3187.
    5. Ignition ON.
    6. Measure:
      Driver Seat Recliner Motor Ground

    1. Yes: GO to 22  .
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24  .
  22. CHECK THE RECLINER POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat recliner motor. REFER to Seat Recliner Motor . CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
    2. No: REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs  . GO to  24.
  23. CHECK FOR CORRECT DSM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all DSM connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the DSM connectors and all previously disconnected rear window defrost system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new DSM. REFER to Driver Seat Module (DSM) . GO to  24.
    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to  24  .
  24. CHECK FOR SRS DTCs 
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Connect: All previously disconnected electrical connectors.
    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Using a scan tool, clear the RCM DTCs  .
    6. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
    7. Using a scan tool, perform RCM self-test.

    Are any RCM DTCs retrieved during self-test? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
    2. No: The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
