Pinpoint Test
- CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Check the keyless entry keypad illumination.
Is the keyless entry keypad illumination always on?
- Yes: GO to 9.
- No: GO to 2 .
- CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD INPUT TO THE BCM
- Using a scan tool, monitor the BCM PIDs KYPD_BTN_1/2, KYPD_BTN_7/8, and KYPD_BTN_9/0.
- Touch several keyless entry keypad buttons while viewing the PIDs .
Do the PIDs display active when the corresponding button is touched?
- Yes: GO to 3 .
- No: REFER to Diagnostic Routine G: The Doors Do Not Lock Or Unlock Using the Keyless Entry Keypad
- CHECK THE BCM DTCs
FROM THE SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Is DTC B121A:11 present?
- Yes: GO to 4 .
- No: GO to 6.
- CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Keyless Entry Keypad.
- Using a scan tool, clear the BCM DTCs .
- Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Is DTC B121A:11 present?
- Yes: GO to 5 .
- No: INSTALL a new keyless entry keypad. REFER to Keyless Entry Keypad .
- CHECK THE KEYPAD ILLUMINATION OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM C2280C.
- Measure:
Keyless Entry Keypad Ground C500 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 CPK28 (WH/RD) - Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 10.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE KEYPAD ILLUMINATION OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR REFERENCE VOLTAGENOTE: The BCM sends out a constant reference voltage on circuit CPK28 (WH/RD) for its own circuit diagnostics. This voltage is 11 volts +/- 1 volt.
- Disconnect Keyless Entry Keypad.
- Measure:
Keyless Entry Keypad Ground C500 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 CPK28 (WH/RD) - Ground
Are 11 volts (+/- 1 volt) present?
- Yes: GO to 7 .
- No: GO to 8.
- CHECK FOR BCM OUTPUTNOTE: This pinpoint test checks for a voltage increase above the reference voltage checked in the previous pinpoint test when the keypad lamp is active commanded on.
- Using a scan tool, view BCM PIDs .
- While active commanding the BCM PID (KEY_PAD_LMP) ON, measure:
Keyless Entry Keypad Ground C500 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 CPK28 (WH/RD) - Ground
Does the voltage increase at least 1 volt greater than the reference voltage?
- Yes: INSTALL a new keyless entry keypad. REFER to Keyless Entry Keypad .
- No: GO to 10.
- CHECK THE KEYPAD ILLUMINATION OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect BCM C2280C.
- Measure:
Keyless Entry Keypad BCM C500 C2280C Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 CPK28 (WH/RD) 26 CPK28 (WH/GN)
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 10.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE KEYPAD ILLUMINATION OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect BCM C2280C.
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the keypad illumination.
Is the keypad still illuminated?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
- No: GO to 10 .
- CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect all BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
