Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Observe the stoplamps.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    • Yes: If equipped with a TBC module, GO to .

      If not equipped with a TBC module, GO to  3.

    • No: INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch .
  2. CHECK THE TBC MODULE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: TBC Module.
    3. Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: INSTALL a new TBC module.
  3. CHECK THE PCM
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: PCM C175B.
    3. Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    • Yes: If equipped with IA, GO to .

      If not equipped with IA, GO to  5.

    • No: GO to  8.
  4. CHECK THE RFA MODULE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: RFA Module C2153C.
    3. Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: GO to  9.
  5. CHECK THE BCM STOPLAMP SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:
      BCM Ground

      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      28 CCB08 (VT/WH)

      - Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    • Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
    • No: GO to .
  6. CHECK THE BCM TBC MODULE OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Measure:
      BCM Ground

      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      4 CBP31 (BU/OG)

      - Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    • Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
    • No: GO to .
  7. CHECK THE BCM STOPLAMP OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: BCM C2280D.
    3. Ignition ON.

    Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 

    • Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
    • No: GO to  10.
  8. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    • Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM:

      REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI , or

      REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .

    • No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  9. CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    • Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE .
    • No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  10. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?
