Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch.
    3. Measure:
      Stoplamp Switch Ground
      G08036588
      G08036589
      C278 Ground
Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      1 SBB59 (BU/RD)
      G08036590
      - Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: VERIFY the BJB fuse 59 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the cause for the circuit short.
  2. BYPASS THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
    1. Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Stoplamp Switch Stoplamp Switch
      G08036591
      G08036592
      C278 C278
Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      1 SBB59 (BU/RD)
      G08036593
      4 CCB08 (VT/WH)

    Do the stoplamps illuminate?

    • Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch .
    • No: LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to .
  3. CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH INPUT CIRUCIT TO THE BCM FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
    2. Measure:
      BCM Ground
      G08036594
      G08036595
      C2280B Ground
Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      28 CCB08 (VT/WH)
      G08036596
      - Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    • Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. VERIFY the BCM fuse 15 (15A) is OK. If OK, GO to .

If not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the cause for the circuit short.

    • No: REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
  4. BYPASS THE BCM
NOTE: If the jumper wire fails, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the cause for the circuit short. After the repair:
If DTC U1000:00 is present, clear the DTCs  and repeat the on-demand self-test (required to enable the stoplamp output driver if DTC U1000:00 is present).
If DTC U3000:49 is present, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280D.
    2. Connect a fused jumper wire:
      BCM Battery Positive
      G08036597
      G08036598
      C2280D Positive
Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      14 CLS52 (BN)
      G08036599
      - Positive

    Do the stoplamps illuminate?

    • Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to .
    • No: REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the BCM stoplamp output circuit for an open.
  5. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?
