Pinpoint Test
- CHECK THE FLM HEADLAMP SWITCH PIDs NOTE: Make sure the headlamp switch is aligned in the correct position when monitoring the PIDs .
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view FLM PIDs .
- Using a scan tool, monitor the FLM LT_SW PID while moving the headlamp switch through all positions.
Do the headlamp switch positions agree with the PID?
- Yes: GO to 2 .
- No: INSTALL a new FLM. REFER to Front Lighting Control Module (FLM) .
- USE THE RECORDED DTCs
FROM THE BCM SELF-TEST
- Check the recorded results from the BCM self-test.
Is DTC B1A85:13 or DTC B1A85:11 present?
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT SENSOR (NO DTC)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Light Sensor.
- Ignition ON.
- Place the headlamp switch in the autolamps on position.
- Measure:
Light Sensor Ground C286 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) - Ground
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes: INSTALL a new light sensor. REFER to Light Sensor .
- No: GO to 10.
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT SENSOR (DTC B1A85:13)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Light Sensor.
- Ignition ON.
- Place the headlamp switch in the autolamps on position.
- Measure:
Light Sensor Ground C286 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) - Ground
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes: GO to 7.
- No: GO to 5 .
- CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Light Sensor Ground C286 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) - Ground
Is any voltage present?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
- No: GO to 6 .
- CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Light Sensor BCM C286 C2280B Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) 30 VLF14 (BU/BN)
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 10.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:
Light Sensor Light Sensor C286 C286 Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) 4 GD215 (BK/GY)
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes: INSTALL a new light sensor. REFER to Light Sensor .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- Measure:
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LIGHT SENSOR (DTC B1A85:11)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Light Sensor.
- Ignition ON.
- Place the headlamp switch in the autolamps on position.
- Measure:
Light Sensor Ground C286 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) - Ground
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes: INSTALL a new light sensor. REFER to Light Sensor .
- No: GO to 9 .
- CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
- Measure:
Light Sensor Ground C286 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 VLF14 (BU/BN) - Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 10 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Install a new BCM. REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
