Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH INPUT
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view BCM PID.
    3. Monitor the BCM PID (IGN_SW_STATE) with the ignition in the RUN position.

    Does the PID indicate the correct ignition switch position? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REFER to SYMPTOM CHART(S) : Steering Column Switches.
  2. CHECK FOR VEHICLE SPEED-RELATED DTCs  IN THE PCM
    1. Using a scan tool, perform PCM self-test.

    Is DTC P0500 present? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC INDEX : Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    2. No: GO to .
  3. CHECK THE STOPLAMP OPERATION
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Press and release the brake pedal while monitoring the stoplamps.

    Do the stoplamps operate properly? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: STOPLAMPS .
  4. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins).
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins.
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary.
    1. Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    2. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
