Pinpoint Test
- CHECK FOR HVAC MODULE DTCs
- Using a scan tool, perform HVAC module self-test.
Are any HVAC DTCs present?
- Yes:
For EMTC system, REFER to
DTC CHART: HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - EMTC
.
For DATC system, REFER to DTC CHART: HEATING, VENTILATION, AND AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - DATC
- No : GO to 2 .
- Yes:
For EMTC system, REFER to
DTC CHART: HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - EMTC
.
- Using a scan tool, perform HVAC module self-test.
- CHECK THE AUXILIARY BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION FROM THE FRONT AND REAR CONTROLS
- Using the front and rear auxiliary blower motor controls, observe blower motor operation and select each auxiliary blower motor speed.
Does the auxiliary blower motor operate the same from the front and rear controls?
- Yes: GO to 3 .
- No
: If the auxiliary blower motor is inoperative from the rear controls, REFER to Diagnostic Routine E: The Auxiliary Temperature, Mode, and Blower Motor Controls Are Inoperative Or Do Not Operate Correctly Using the Rear Auxiliary Controls Only .
- If the auxiliary blower motor is inoperative from the front controls:
- For EMTC systems , if all other auxiliary controls operate correctly using the front controls, INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE (FCIM) . If no other auxiliary controls operate from the front controls, INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - EMTC .
- For DATC systems , if there is no other touch screen concerns in the screen area, INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - DATC . If there are other touch screen concerns in the screen area, REFER to PINPOINT TEST V: THE TOUCHSCREEN IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY (Premium Plus) or REFER to PINPOINT TEST W: THE TOUCHSCREEN IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY (Sony® Sound).
- Using the front and rear auxiliary blower motor controls, observe blower motor operation and select each auxiliary blower motor speed.
- CHECK THE AUXILIARY BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION
- Using the front and rear auxiliary blower motor controls, observe blower motor operation and select each auxiliary blower motor speed.
Does the auxiliary blower motor operate correctly?
- Yes: GO to 4 .
- No
: If the auxiliary blower motor is inoperative, REFER to Diagnostic Routine A: The Auxiliary Blower Motor Is Inoperative .
If the blower motor is always on or not all speeds operate correctly, REFER to Diagnostic Routine B: The Auxiliary Blower Motor Does Not Operate Correctly .
- Using the front and rear auxiliary blower motor controls, observe blower motor operation and select each auxiliary blower motor speed.
- CHECK AUXILIARY TEMPERATURE CONTROL OPERATION FROM THE FRONT AND REAR CONTROLS
- Start the vehicle and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
- With the A/C on.
- Using the front and rear auxiliary controls, change the temperature setting from the coldest to the warmest and back to the coldest.
Does the temperature blend door operate the same between the front and rear controls?
- Yes: GO to 5 .
- No
: If the auxiliary temperature blend door is inoperative from the rear controls, REFER to Diagnostic Routine E: The Auxiliary Temperature, Mode, and Blower Motor Controls Are Inoperative Or Do Not Operate Correctly Using the Rear Auxiliary Controls Only .
- If the auxiliary temperature blend door is inoperative from the front controls:
- For EMTC systems , if all other auxiliary controls operate correctly using the front controls, INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE (FCIM) . If no other auxiliary controls operate from the front controls, INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - EMTC .
- For DATC systems , if there is no other touch screen concerns in the screen area, INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - DATC . If there are other touch screen concerns in the screen area, REFER to PINPOINT TEST V: THE TOUCHSCREEN IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY (Premium Plus) or REFER to PINPOINT TEST W: THE TOUCHSCREEN IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY (Sony® Sound).
- VERIFY AUXILIARY TEMPERATURE CONTROL OPERATION
- With the A/C on.
- Change the temperature setting from the coldest to the warmest and back to the coldest.
Does the temperature blend door operate the same between the front and rear controls?
- Yes: GO to 6 .
- No
: If the temperature does not get significantly warmer, REFER to
DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE L
: Insufficient, Erratic, or No Heat for DATC and REFER to
DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE J
: Insufficient, Erratic or No Heat for EMTC.
If the temperature does not get significantly cooler, REFER to REFRIGERANT SYSTEM TESTS .
For all others, REFER to Diagnostic Routine C: The Auxiliary Temperature Control is Inoperative or Does Not Operate Correctly Using The Front Or Rear Auxiliary Controls .
- CHECK AUXILIARY MODE DOOR OPERATION FROM THE FRONT AND REAR CONTROLS
- Select the highest auxiliary blower motor setting.
- Using the front and rear auxiliary controls, change the mode setting from panel to floor and back to panel.
Does the auxiliary mode door actuator operate the same from the front and rear controls?
- Yes: GO to 7 .
- No
: If the auxiliary mode door actuator is inoperative from the rear controls, REFER to Diagnostic Routine E: The Auxiliary Temperature, Mode, and Blower Motor Controls Are Inoperative Or Do Not Operate Correctly Using the Rear Auxiliary Controls Only .
- If the auxiliary mode door actuator is inoperative from the front controls:
- For EMTC systems , if all other auxiliary controls operate correctly using the front controls, INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULE (FCIM) . If no other auxiliary controls operate from the front controls, INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - EMTC .
- For DATC systems , if there is no other touch screen concerns in the screen area, INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - DATC . If there are other touch screen concerns in the screen area, REFER to PINPOINT TEST V: THE TOUCHSCREEN IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY (Premium Plus) or REFER to PINPOINT TEST W: THE TOUCHSCREEN IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY (Sony® Sound).
- VERIFY AUXILIARY MODE DOOR OPERATION
- Select the highest auxiliary blower motor setting.
- Change the mode setting from panel to floor and back to panel.
Does the auxiliary airflow change to the floor when floor selected and the headliner when panel selected?
- Yes: The system is operating normally.
- No : REFER to Diagnostic Routine D: The Auxiliary Mode Control Is Inoperative or Does Not Operate Correctly Using The Front or Rear Auxiliary Controls .
