Instrument Panel: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. If equipped, remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to CONSOLE - FLOOR .
  2. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
  3. Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.

  4. Detach the upper steering column shaft from the steering column.

    Vehicles with a manual transmission 

  5. Remove the shift lever and boot. For additional information, refer to MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - TREMEC 5-SPEED.

    All vehicles 

  6. Remove the RH and LH A-pillar trim panels and the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  7. Position aside the RH and LH front door weatherstrips.
  8. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel side trim panels.
  9. Remove the parking brake release handle bolt and position aside the parking brake release handle.
  10. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.
    • Pull the steering column opening trim panel rearward to release the steering column opening trim panel retaining clips.

    Vehicles with an automatic transmission 

  11. Remove the selector lever cable from the steering column.
    • Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column selector lever.
    • Remove the selector lever cable from the steering column bracket.

    All vehicles 

  12. Disconnect the 3 wiring harness electrical connectors located under the steering column opening panel.

  13. If equipped, disconnect the satellite radio antenna connector located under the steering column opening panel.

  14. Remove the RH lower insulator panel.
    • Remove the 2 pushpin retainers.

  15. Disconnect the antenna cable and the bulkhead electrical connector.

  16. Disconnect the 2 connectors from the Smart Junction Box (SJB).

  17. Lower the glove compartment.
    1. Open the glove compartment.
    2. Press the glove compartment stop inward and lower the glove compartment.

  18. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors attached to the plenum chamber.

  19. Close the glove compartment.
    1. Press the glove compartment stop inward and raise the glove compartment.
    2. Close the glove compartment.

  20. Remove the instrument panel lower center support bracket and bolts.

  21. Remove the instrument panel upper cowl bolt covers.
    NOTE: The 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts are located under the upper cowl bolt covers. They are visible looking through the windshield into the vehicle. An extension will be needed for removal.
  22. Remove the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.
  23. Remove the LH door weather shield.
    • Remove the 4 LH door weather shield pin-type retainers.

  24. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.

  25. NOTE: Place tape on the LH front door as shown below to avoid damage to the paint.

  26. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt.
  27. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel bolts.
  28. NOTE: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.
    NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are positioned out of the way before removing the instrument panel.

    Remove the instrument panel.
