Brake Booster - Vacuum: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. NOTE: Applying the brake pedal a minimum of 5 times with the engine not running will relieve the vacuum in the brake booster.

  2. Remove the cooling system degas bottle. Refer to ENGINE COOLING - GASOLINE ENGINES for gasoline engine vehicles and ENGINE - 6.7L DIESEL for diesel engine vehicles.

    • To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

  5. NOTE: Do not service the brake pedal without first removing the stoplamp switch. Remove this switch with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. The switch plunger must be compressed for the switch to rotate in the bracket. Attempting to remove the switch when the plunger is extended (during pedal apply) results in damage to the switch.

    Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .

    • To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
