Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - F-250, F-350: Removal

  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  2. NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.

    Remove the 2 brake caliper anchor plate bolts and position the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly aside.

    • Support the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly using mechanic's wire.
  3. Remove the grease cap.
  4. Remove the cotter pin, wheel spindle nut retainer, nut and flat washer.
    • Discard the wheel spindle nut.
  5. NOTE: Inspect the condition of the wheel spindle and threads, clean or install new components as necessary.

    Remove the outer wheel bearing, then remove the brake disc and hub assembly.

  6. NOTE: Do not damage the wheel bearing cage while removing. A damaged wheel bearing cage may cause premature bearing failure.

    Using a suitable slide hammer and bearing seal remover, remove the inner wheel bearing seal and bearing.
