Collapsible Steering Column

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The collapsible steering column includes a device that, once deployed, reduces the amount of force necessary to collapse the steering column during a crash event. The deployable device is activated by the RCM  , depending on the driver seat position and the force of the crash. After deployment, a new steering column must be installed.
