Component Description: Clockspring
The clockspring allows for continuous electrical connections between the driver air bag module and the RCM . A spiral-wound cable wraps around the center of the clockspring and as the steering wheel is turned, the spiral cable inside expands or contracts in diameter as the 2 halves of the clockspring turn.
On vehicles equipped with Active Park Assist, an absolute steering wheel rotation sensor is mounted between the clockspring and the SCCM . Similar to the clockspring, the absolute steering wheel rotation sensor must be correctly centered. If the absolute steering wheel rotation sensor and clockspring are not prevented from turning during service, or the clockspring centering procedure is not correctly followed, ABS module DTCs may be set.
