Output Shaft Seal - Flange Yoke, 4WD: Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Clean any loose Loctite® from the output shaft and output shaft nut threads.
  2. Using the Output Shaft Seal Installer and the Drive Pinion Oil Seal Remover/Installer, install the output shaft seal.

  3. Inspect the output shaft nut O-ring for damage and install a new output shaft nut if necessary.

  4. Using the Output Shaft Nut Socket, install the output shaft nut.
    • Tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).

    RWD vehicles 

  5. Install the driveshaft flange and the bolt.
    • Tighten to 133 Nm (98 lb-ft).

  6. Position the driveshaft on the flange and install 4 new bolts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

    4WD vehicles 

  7. Install the transfer case. For additional information, refer to TRANSFER CASE .

    All vehicles 

  8. Start the engine. Move the selector lever through all gear ranges while checking for engagements to allow the main control hydraulic circuits to fill with transmission fluid.
  9. NOTE: The use of any transmission fluid other than specified may result in the transmission failing to operate in a normal manner or transmission failure.

    Using the scan tool with the engine running, check and make sure the transmission is at normal operating temperature 82-93°C (180-200°F). Check and adjust the transmission fluid level and check for any leaks. If transmission fluid is needed, add transmission fluid in increments of 0.24L (0.5 pt) until the correct level is achieved.
