In 2nd gear, SSA is commanded ON by the PCM/TCM to apply the forward (1, 2, 3, 4) clutch. Shift Solenoid C (SSC) is commanded ON to apply the intermediate (2, 6) clutch. The forward (1, 2, 3, 4) clutch connects the front carrier to the No. 3 sun gear. The intermediate (2, 6) clutch is applied to hold the No. 2 sun gear, transferring power through the rear planetary carrier to the rear ring gear/output shaft at a 2.318 to 1 ratio.
