Pinpoint Test D: The Vehicle Does Not Start With the Intelligent Access (IA) Key in Certain Areas of the Vehicle

  1. D1 CHECK THE Intelligent Access (IA) KEY LOCATION 
    • Check the location of the Intelligent Access (IA) key and if it is placed in the far corners of the interior of the vehicle, move the Intelligent Access (IA) key out of these areas and attempt to start the vehicle.

    Does the vehicle start? 

    • Yes  : The system is OK. INFORM the customer of the normal vehicle operation.
    • No  : GO to D2  .
  2. D2 CHECK FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INTERFERENCE 
    • Check for the use of any charger or other wireless device that can cause interference with the Intelligent Access (IA) key. If any device is found, remove the device and attempt to start the engine.

    Does the engine start? 

    • Yes  : INFORM the customer of the cause of the concern and the normal operation of the vehicle.
    • No  : GO to D3  .
  3. D3 CHECK THE SUSPECT PASSIVE START ANTENNA 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Suspect Passive Start Antenna.
    • Measure:
      FRONT

      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C325-1 Component Side OHM C325-2 Component Side
      CENTER

      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C326-1 Component Side OHM C326-2 Component Side
      REAR

      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C4378-1 Component Side OHM C4378-2 Component Side

    Is the resistance between 1 and 10 ohms? 

  4. D4 CHECK THE PASSIVE START ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: RFA  Module C2153A.
    • Place an Intelligent Access (IA) key in the backup slot and press the START/STOP switch to switch the ignition to ON.
    • For a front antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C325-1  VOLTAGE Ground
      C325-2  VOLTAGE Ground
    • For a center antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C326-1  VOLTAGE Ground
      C326-2  VOLTAGE Ground
    • For a rear antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C4378-1  VOLTAGE Ground
      C4378-2  VOLTAGE Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    • Yes  : GO to D5  .
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit in question.
  5. D5 CHECK THE PASSIVE START ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • For a front antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C325-1  OHM Ground
      C325-2  OHM Ground
    • For a center antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C326-1  OHM Ground
      C326-2  OHM Ground
    • For a rear antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C4378-1  OHM Ground
      C4378-2  OHM Ground

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    • Yes  : GO to D6  .
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit in question.
  6. D6 CHECK THE PASSIVE START ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • For a front antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C325-1  OHM C2153A-1 
      C325-2  OHM C2153A-2 
    • For a center antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C326-1  OHM C2153A-3 
      C326-2  OHM C2153A-4 
    • For a rear antenna, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C4378-1  OHM C2153A-5 
      C4378-2  OHM C2153A-14 

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    • Yes  : GO to D7  .
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit in question.
  7. D7 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all RFA  module connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion, (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect all the RFA  module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    • Yes  : CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and follow TSB  instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA  module. REFER to REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE .
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
