PINPOINT TEST E: The Front Park Or Turn Or Warn LEDs Are Inoperative Or Do Not Operate

  1. E1 CHECK THE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODES (LEDs) 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Activate and observe the park or turn or warn LEDs  .

    Is only an individual flashing LED inoperative? 

    1. Yes  : GO to E2  .
    2. No  : GO to  E5.
  2. E2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Flashing LED.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Activate the front park or turn or warn LEDs  .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      Flashing LED-LH Front Park or Turn or Warn C1706-2  VOLTAGE Ground
      Flashing LED-RH Front Park or Turn or Warn C1708-2  VOLTAGE Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes  : GO to E3  .
    2. No  : GO to  E4.
  3. E3 CHECK FOR GROUND TO THE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) 
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      Flashing LED-LH Front Park or Turn or Warn C1706-2  VOLTAGE Flashing LED C1706-4 
      Flashing LED-RH Front Park or Turn or Warn C1708-2  VOLTAGE Flashing LED C1708-4 

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new flashing LED. REFER to FRONT PARK/TURN/WARN LED ASSEMBLY .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  4. E4 CHECK THE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Warn Module.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      Flashing LED-LH Front Park or Turn or Warn C1706-2  OHM C1830-3 
      Flashing LED-RH Front Park or Turn or Warn C1708-2  OHM C1830-2 

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : INSPECT the warn module jumper harness for an open or shorting condition. REPAIR as necessary. If no condition is found, INSTALL a new warn module.

      REFER to WARN MODULE .

    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  5. E5 CHECK THE MODULE CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Warn Module.
    • Activate the front park or turn or warn LEDs  .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C1830-1  VOLTAGE Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes  : GO to  E7.
    2. No  : GO to E6  .
  6. E6 CHECK THE MODULE CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inline C4808A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C1830-1  OHM C4808A-2 

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes  : Verify the lighting relay center or lighting and siren control module 10A output fuses are OK.

      If OK, GO to  E9.

      If not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.

    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  7. E7 CHECK THE MODULE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C1830-5  VOLTAGE Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes  : GO to E8  .
    2. No  : VERIFY the BJB  fuse 74 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  8. E8 CHECK THE MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C1830-5  VOLTAGE C1830-8 

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes  : INSPECT the warn module jumper harness for an open or shorting condition. REPAIR as necessary. If no condition is found, INSTALL a new warn module. REFER to WARN MODULE .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  9. E9 CHECK FOR CORRECT LIGHTING CONTROL OPERATION 
    • For vehicles with lighting and siren control, disconnect and inspect all the lighting and siren control module connectors and jumpers.
    • For vehicles with lighting control only, disconnect and inspect all the lighting relay center connectors and jumpers.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
      • pushed-out-pins - install new pins as necessary
    • For vehicles with lighting and siren control, reconnect the lighting and siren control module connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • For vehicles with lighting control only, reconnect the lighting relay center connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes  : CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB  instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, CONTACT Whelen Service/Diagnostics at 1-860-526-9504, extension 8308.
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
