NOTE: Failure to install the upper intake manifold heat shield may result in upper intake manifold damage.
Install the upper intake manifold heat shield.
- Align the tab on the front side of the heat shield to tuck under the weld flange.
- Wrap the ears of the heat shield around the boss.
- Tuck the rear ear of the heat shield under the weld flange. (If 1 and 2 are done correctly, this falls into place).
All upper intake manifolds
-
NOTE: Do not slide the upper intake manifold across the lower intake manifold during installation. Failure to follow this may result in damage to the upper intake manifold gaskets.NOTE: Remove the cover or tape from the valve covers and lower intake manifold prior to installing the upper intake manifold.
Apply outward pressure on metal pipe and install the upper intake manifold using new gaskets. Tighten the 15 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Install heater inlet tube top retainer.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- If equipped, connect the vacuum hose retainer to the upper intake manifold.
- Install the engine oil level indicator tube bolt and the transmission fluid level indicator tube bolt.
- Tighten the engine oil level indicator tube bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Tighten the transmission fluid level indicator tube bolt to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
- Connect the coolant hose retainer to the upper intake manifold.
- Connect the MAP sensor electrical connector and wire harness retainers.
