Pinpoint Test D: Shift Solenoid D

  1. D1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD ALL DTCS 
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all DTCs.

    Are DTCs P0765, P0768, P0769, P0982 and/or P0983 present? 

    1. Yes  : For DTCs P0765, P0768 and P0769, GO to D2  .

      For DTC P0982, GO to  D5.

      For DTC P0983, GO to  D7.

    2. No  : GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
  2. D2 CHECK THE SSD CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1520A  .
    • Disconnect: TCM C1750  .
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Measure the resistance  between.
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : GO to D3  .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  3. D3 CHECK THE SSD FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the component side resistance  between.
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit

    Is the resistance between 4.0 and 7.2 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new TCM  . REFER to TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM  with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the Solenoid Body Strategy Download procedure. REFER to SOLENOID BODY STRATEGY DOWNLOAD .
    2. No  : GO to D4  .
  4. D4 CHECK THE SSD RESISTANCE 
    • Remove the solenoid body leadframe, refer to SOLENOID BODY LEADFRAME . Inspect for metal shavings on the exposed metal contacts or other components and clean the solenoid and solenoid body leadframe terminals.
    • Measure SSD resistance  between.
      Positive Lead Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 4.0 and 7.2 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new solenoid body leadframe. REFER to SOLENOID BODY LEADFRAME .
    2. No  : INSTALL a new SSD  . REFER to SOLENOIDS .
  5. D5 CHECK THE SSD CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1520A  .
    • Disconnect: TCM C1750  .
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Measure the resistance  between.
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C1520A-10  CET08 (BN/WH) - Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : GO to D6  .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  6. D6 CHECK THE SSD FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Remove the solenoid body leadframe, refer to SOLENOID BODY LEADFRAME . Inspect for metal shavings on the exposed metal contacts or other components and clean the solenoid and solenoid body leadframe terminals.
    • Measure SSD resistance  between.
      Positive Lead Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new SSD  . REFER to SOLENOIDS .
    2. No  : INSTALL a new solenoid body leadframe. REFER to SOLENOID BODY LEADFRAME .
  7. D7 CHECK THE SSD CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1520A  .
    • Disconnect: TCM C1750  .
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage  between.
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C1520A-10  CET08 (BN/WH) - Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new TCM  . REFER to TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM  with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the Solenoid Body Strategy Download procedure. REFER to SOLENOID BODY STRATEGY DOWNLOAD .
