Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Removal

All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the oil level indicator.
- Remove the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE .
Early build vehicles
- Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor.
Late build vehicles
- Remove the A/C drive belt. REFER to
ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT -- 2.0L GTDI

All vehicles
- Disconnect the 2 A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Remove the A/C compressor nut, stud and the 2 bolts.
- Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.
- Remove the 4 engine front cover-to-oil pan fasteners.
- Remove the 13 bolts and the oil pan.
- Remove the 6 bolts and the crankshaft rear seal with retainer plate.
