Turbocharger - RH: Installation

    1. Install a new filter.
    2. Install a new sealing washer.

    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  3. NOTE: The 2 upper RH  turbocharger bracket bolts must be loosened in order to perform the tightening sequence or damage to the turbocharger may occur.

  4. Install a new gasket.

  5. NOTE: Do not tighten the bolt at this stage.

  6. Install 3 new bolts.
    • Tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).

    • Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).

  8. NOTE: Align the index marks for the RH CAC  tube.
    1. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

    1. Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

  10. NOTE: Align the index marks for the RH CAC tube.
    1. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

  11. Tighten the 3 bolts in the following sequence.
    1. Position the upper RH  turbocharger-to-cylinder block bracket as far clockwise as possible.
    2. Tighten to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft).
    3. Tighten to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft).
    4. Tighten to 19 Nm (168 lb-in).

  12. Install 2 new sealing washers.

    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  14. Install a new gasket and 2 new O-ring seals. Material: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil (US); Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil (Canada) XO-5W30-QSP (US); CXO-5W30-LSP12 (Canada); or equivalent.

  15. NOTE: Lubricate the cylinder block bore with Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil (US); Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil (Canada) XO-5W30-QSP (US); CXO-5W30-LSP12 (Canada); or equivalent.
    2. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  16. Tighten the 3 bolts in the sequence shown in illustration.
    1. Tighten to 19 Nm (168 lb-in).
    2. Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-in).

  17. NOTE: Align the index marks for the RH  turbocharger intake pipe.
    NOTE: Make sure the turbocharger wastegate regulating valve hose does not contact the exhaust manifold heat shield.
    1. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

  18. NOTE: Listen for audible click when installing the oil supply tube into the quick connect fitting.

    Refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .

  20. Install the front subframe. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  21. Install the RH  catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER - RH, 3.5L GTDI .
  22. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING .
