Inspection and Verification

- Verify the customer concern.

Mechanical Electrical - Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM)
- Front Display Interface Module (FDIM)
- AM/FM antenna
- Audio input jack
- Noise suppression equipment
- Satellite radio antenna
- Speakers
- Steering wheel controls
- Universal Serial Bus (USB) port
- Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s):
- 20 (30A) (VBATT)
- 33 (30A) (VBATT)
- Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse(s):
- 3 (15A) (VBATT)
- 14 (10A) (VBATT)
- 28 (5A) (START signal)
- 39 (20A) (VBATT)
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

NOTE: Do not reprogram the APIM to try and resolve a customer reported issue unless specifically directed by a Ford service publication; TSB, Field Service Action (FSA), or Electronic Field Communication (EFC).
If vehicle is equipped with SYNC® or SYNC® with MyTouch, refer to the SYMPTOM CHART before continuing with scan tool hook up and diagnosis.

NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).

NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
- Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
- Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
- REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- Verify the ignition is in RUN.
- Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
- REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose no response from the PCM.
- Carry out the network test.
- If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.

NOTE: Do not press any buttons on the FCIM or FDIM while the Audio Front Control Module (ACM) is carrying out the self-test.
CLEAR the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the ACM.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC CHARTS . For all other DTCs, REFER to the MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHARTS .
