Battery Cables - 5.0L

All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT .
- Open the Battery Junction Box (BJB) cover, remove the nut and position the BJB terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Remove the bolts and position the battery ground cable body terminals aside.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Remove the battery cable terminal nut from the terminal and position the battery cable terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Disconnect the engine control harness connector and the PCM harness connector.
- Detach the battery cable harness locators from the RH strut tower and fender area.
- Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid positive cable terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
- Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid wire terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Remove the nut and position the battery ground cable-to-engine terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the A/C compressor connector.
- Detach the battery cable harness locators from the oil pan.
- Remove the battery cable harness bracket bolt.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
- Disconnect the RH and LH Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) connectors.
- Disconnect the RH and LH upper Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) connectors.
Automatic transmission
- Disconnect the transmission vehicle harness connector.
Manual transmission
- Disconnect the reverse switch connector from the transmission.
- Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor connector from the transmission.
- Disconnect the skip-shift solenoid connector from the transmission.
All vehicles
- Detach the battery cable harness locators from the transmission.
- Position aside the generator B+ terminal cover, remove the nut and position the generator B+ terminal aside.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
- Disconnect the generator connector. If equipped with an oil cooler, detach the battery cable harness locators from the oil cooler tube and the engine stud.
- Disconnect the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) connectors.
- Remove the 4 nuts and position the battery cable harness brackets aside.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Detach the battery cable harness locator from the EPAS. If equipped with an oil cooler, detach the battery cable harness locators from the oil pan stud and the inner oil cooler tube.
- Remove the battery cables.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
