Output Shaft Seal: Removal

All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Support the transmission with a suitable transmission jack.
- Remove the 4 transmission crossmember bolts and the 3 transmission support insulator bolts and remove transmission support insulator and crossmember.
Vehicles equipped with a 5.0L (4V) engine

NOTE: The driveshaft center bearing is spaced from the body by 2 washers that will fall off of the bearing when the bolts are removed.
Remove and discard the 2 driveshaft center bearing bolts and position the driveshaft aside.
All vehicles
- Index mark the driveshaft flange to the output shaft flange, remove and discard the 4 bolts and position the driveshaft aside.
- Remove the output shaft flange bolt.
- Using the 2 or 3 Jaw Puller and the Step Plate, remove the output shaft flange.
- Using a suitable tool, remove and discard the output shaft seal.
