WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
DTC P2183: ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR 2 CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE

Description:  This DTC sets when the vehicle has been driven above 1, 250 RPM without the secondary cooling system engine coolant temperature 2 (ECT2) sensor signal increasing above 70°C (158°F). The time to set the DTC depends on the secondary cooling system and the intake air temperatures and can vary between 20 and 60 minutes.
Possible Causes:
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Damaged thermostat
  • Damaged secondary cooling system ECT2 sensor
  • Secondary cooling system ECT2 sensor wiring concern
Diagnostic Aids:  The presence of this DTC may indicate that the vehicle is operating in derate mode and may experience a loss of power. After repair, the vehicle may still display a system warning message. Drive the vehicle until the system warning message has cleared from the instrument cluster message center.
Make sure the intake air system and the secondary cooling system temperatures are similar when the engine is cold. Also make sure the secondary cooling system ECT2 sensor and the actual engine operating temperatures are the same.
