DTC P050E: Cold Start Engine Exhaust Temperature Too Low

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
DTC P050E: COLD START ENGINE EXHAUST TEMPERATURE TOO LOW

Description:  The PCM calculates the actual oxidation catalytic converter (OC) warm up temperature during a cold start. The PCM then compares the actual OC temperature to the expected OC temperature model. The difference between the actual and expected temperatures is a ratio. When this ratio exceeds the calibrated value this DTC sets and the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminates.
Possible Causes:
  • Intake air system restriction
  • Exhaust restriction
  • Engine mechanical concern
  • Vacuum leaks
  • Damaged exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor
Diagnostic Aids:  This DTC sets when one or more EGT sensors indicate a value outside a calibrated threshold when compared to the catalyst temperature model. The PCM compares the values from the ambient air temperature (AAT), intake air temperature (IAT), and EGT sensors to the catalyst temperature model.
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
