DTC P016D: Excessive Time To Enter Closed Loop Fuel Pressure Control

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-450 Super Duty, 2013 Ford F-350 Super Duty, and 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
DTC P016D: EXCESSIVE TIME TO ENTER CLOSED LOOP FUEL PRESSURE CONTROL

Description:  On every engine start with fuel temperature less than 40 °C (104 °F), the PCM checks the accuracy of the fuel rail pressure sensor by estimating the amount of effort required by the fuel pressure control valve to maintain pressure for a given fuel rail pressure reading. This DTC sets when the system is unable to successfully learn the effort required over a substantial period of time. This DTC indicates that some element of the fuel system is operating within plausible tolerances, but with too much variation to get a stable reading.
Possible Causes:
  • Damaged fuel pressure control valve
  • Damaged fuel volume control valve
  • Damaged FRP sensor
  • Damaged PCM
Diagnostic Aids:  When in fuel pressure control valve operating mode, the system evaluates the control signal required for the fuel pressure control valve and adjusts to the expected value. This DTC sets if the new adjustment value is not learned in a given time.
