Pinpoint Test

  1. VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Verify there is an observable symptom present.

    Is an observable symptom present? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  2. CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform a network test.

    Does the PCM pass the network test? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE A : The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.
  3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs  FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded? 

    1. Yes: For DTC U3003:16, REFER to Diagnostic Routine BD: U3003:16 .

      For DTC U3003:17, REFER to Diagnostic Routine BE: U3003:17 .

    2. No: GO to .
  4. RECHECK THE IPC DTCs 
    NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.
    1. Clear the DTCs  .
    2. Wait 10 seconds.
    3. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Is DTC U0101:00 still present? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  5. CHECK FOR DTC U0101:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
    1. Clear all DTCs  .
    2. Ignition OFF.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Wait 10 seconds.
    5. Using a scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory DTCs  .

    Is DTC U0101:00 set in the ABS module? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI , or REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .
    2. No: INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
