Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
    3. Operate the passenger seat forward and rearward.

    Does the seat move horizontally? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: GO to  3  .
  2. CHECK THE RECLINER MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION
    1. Recline the passenger backrest forward and rearward.

    Does the seat backrest recline forward and rearward? 

    1. Yes: GO to  6.
    2. No: GO to  13.
  3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL MOTOR
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Horizontal Motor C332.
    2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.

      While pushing the passenger seat control switch forward and rearward, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . GO to  16.
    2. No: GO to .
  4. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330.
    2. Measure:
      Passenger Seat Control Switch Passenger Seat Horizontal Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16  .
  5. CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . GO to  16.
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16.
  6. DETERMINE THE SEAT HEIGHT ADJUST FAILURE
    1. Operate the seat front and rear height adjustments.

    Does the seat front and rear height adjust up and down? 

    1. Yes: If only the front height adjust motor operates, GO to .

      If only the rear height adjust motor operates, GO to  10.

    2. No: INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . GO to  16.
  7. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT REAR HEIGHT MOTOR
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Rear Height Motor C3075.
    2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.

      While pressing the rear height adjust switch up and down, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . GO to  16.
    2. No: GO to .
  8. CHECK THE REAR SEAT HEIGHT MOTOR FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330.
    2. Measure:
      Passenger Seat Control Switch Passenger Seat Rear Height Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16  .
  9. CHECK THE REAR SEAT HEIGHT MOTOR FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . GO to  16.
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16.
  10. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Front Height Motor C3074.
    2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.

      While pressing the front height adjust switch up and down, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . GO to  16.
    2. No: GO to 11  .
  11. CHECK THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330.
    2. Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to 12  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16  .
  12. CHECK THE FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:
      Passenger Seat Control Switch Passenger Seat Front Height Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . GO to  16.
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16.
  13. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Recliner Motor C3189.
    2. NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat control switch is activated.

      While pushing the recline switch forward and rearward, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat recliner motor. REFER to Seat Recliner Motor . GO to  16  .
    2. No: GO to 14  .
  14. CHECK THE RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C330.
    2. Measure:
      Passenger Seat Control Switch Passenger Seat Recliner Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to 15  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to  16  .
  15. CHECK THE RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:
      Passenger Seat Control Switch Passenger Seat Recliner Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch . GO to 16  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to 16  .
  16. CHECK FOR SRS DTCs 
    1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

      Ignition OFF.

    2. Connect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
    3. Connect: All previously disconnected electrical connectors.
    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Using a scan tool, clear the RCM DTCs  .
    6. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
    7. Using a scan tool, perform RCM self-test.

    Are any RCM DTCs retrieved during self-test? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
    2. No: The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
